Mission

The mission of the Engineering and Mining Experiment Station (EMES) is to provide analytical and technical services for students and faculty at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology as well as for off-campus clients in the public and private sectors.  Established in 1903 to serve the Black Hills mining industry, EMES has evolved to meet the changing analytical needs of academia, government, and industry in the region and around the globe.

Today, a wide variety of the most advanced instrumental methods are used, some of which are described here.  In addition to providing a variety of analytical services, EMES maintains and upgrades analytical facilities, develops new analytical methods, and offers training courses to both the campus and industrial community on the use of EMES laboratories.
